Alderman Perez Threatened with Misdemeanor Charges for Fun Day

Several of the Peru aldermen are seeking to have Alderman Perez with a misdemeanor charges against for his Winter Fun Day. Have they lost their mind?

Peru City Council is seeking misdemeanor charges against Rodney Perez because they are saying this fourth Winter Family Fun Day Rodney put on this past weekend was some campaign fraud by Rodney. So they are having law enforcement look into charges against him.

In the words of the soon to be voted out alderman...Dave waldorf "it's a witch hunt". And in this case Rodney is the witch...harl is doing payback to anyone who hurt him prior...just look at Bartley harl want a city manager and knows a referendum is needed but he basically explained how to get rid of Bartley

Why, yes, I do believe they've all lost their minds. Such immature behavior from our elected officials. I sure hope this next election brings in 3 new faces, one of whom would be Rodney's brother! Can you imagine the good that would be done in the community with 2 Perez' on the council. Now to fast forward two years and get rid of Harl and Sappy.

@10:46, Harl brought up a city manager at tonight's council meeting?

Well now, I guess I've see it all. Even if it was a campaign event - which it is clearly not - there is no fraud.

So every time Perez is at city hall for a committee meeting or council meeting, he's committing campaign fraud? He parks his car there, which has his campaign decals on it, and he's using city electricity! Lmao! What a joke Peru has become. Laughing stock of the Valley!

Gosh, wouldn't it be nice if a Chicago news channel got ahold of this one. All you people over there at city hall needs to take your diapers off and put your big boy pants/panties on.

Do our pavilions have electricity? A friend of mine lives in Lasalle and he/she would like a Rodney Perez campaign sign. Would this be campaign fraud? This is a jealousy issue. Did the alderman and Mayor have this planned out prior to the family fun day being the reason they all were a no show? Nice tactics little boys, not going to work. Guarantee you.

Never heard such crap in my life. Where was the smart alderman? Why didn't you speak up at last nights council meeting? This should be the headline on today's paper. Hasn't electricity been used at the fire department for non city business? Fundraisers?

Sign with harls name for street improvements prior to election, is this campaign fraud? And we taxpayers paid for signs, manhours, etc..

8:23, how about the water used for water fights? Who pays for this? Water fraud? Wlpo, thanks for the coverage regarding family fun days.

Sad sad day in Peru.

Not a sad day in Peru, it's a happy day because it shows stupidity on some. You can't change stupid, some people stay quiet because if they speak they show their stupidity. Wolves travel in packs. Did the ADS retire? A comment from the Ambassador of Deer Spotting would be much appreciated.

8:23 All fire department events have no campaign implications. No signs, etc. All water event are sponsored by the city.

11:21 I have not seen any campaign signs at any of those events or in the public park that hosts the water fights.

8:26 Did he have those signs up during a election cycle?

11:21 and 11:41, let's think about this - the water fights that were held in conjunction with the pool fundraising event "fun day" a couple of years ago at Centennial Park, the mayor was there watching the water fights. His wife was there helping with the pool fundraiser. They brought various campaign goodies for the people attending. Can you please tell me how that was ok but what Perez did is not ok. He wasn't handing out any campaign goodies.

Doesn't anyone realize how petty and childish the mayors personal attack on ALDERMAN Perez appears? In such political situations it may be best to be tactful and let the elections start to cure this inapproriate dilema. Unless Mayor Harl is aware of unannounced wrongdoings he has given Peru a image of instability and lack of political leadership. This misuse of power will only hinder the advancement of the city. Where did the aldermen line up on this inept accusation and who voiced support of the Mayor?
During a recent referrendum the concept of at large aldermen were voted upon and defeated. One group of very experienced individuals claimed that a at large campaign would take away representation, but nowhere did they voice their opinion about qualified representation.
Qualified representation is what Peru should be concerned with and how to achieve it.
Proof of this when you elect 8 aldermen and can't get 3 good ones. The present administration and council have proven the need of qualifications the evening they discovered their unlimited powers granted from "Super Majority" and Home Rule which can be utilized to grant the whims of a few over the wishes of the citizenship. Six aldermen out of eight can completely control a city with the "Super Majority"
clause. This is a major reason that Peru needs at least 3 open minded, free thinking, intelligent, council members.

1:12 Did the Mayor give out those campaign items during a election time frame? No, it was in the summer. Did the MAYOR have signs posted or car decals in the Park during campaign time-period? No. Did the Mayor publicize the event as his event during the campaign time frame. The time frame is the date that petitions are received at City Hall. No.
Are you comparing HARL TO PEREZ?

You have two giant egos fighting for whatever they are fighting about. The city can do better.

4:18 it was in the summer, but Harl was already campaigning. How about in December before the election when Harl actually walked in the Christmas parade (in prior years he rode in his fancy truck) and handed out campaign goodies to the adults. Fortunately his wife and granddaughters walked too and threw candy to the kids.

I just want the citizens of Peru to open their eyes and see that alderman Rodney Perez is the only City official that is working for them and doesn't have his own hidden agendas like boss Harl and all of his puppets!

9:58 Election signs in a public park was his agenda. Its called self promotion!

What is the big fuss about, is Alderman Perez using those big signs made when Mayor Harl wanted to get credit for road improvements. Those signs were made up on city employees time and what happened to the wood they were made from?
Skelton bones just flying out of the closet all over the place come on gang open a few more doors.

Now if Rodney had hammered his signs in the ground that day of the sledding event, maybe this would be an issue, and maybe if this was the first winter he had the event, maybe this would be an issue, but for God's sake the signs were on his car and have been, and he had this sledding last year, so what is the problem? The News Trib should clarify this! The first article made it appear that he had put his signs up in the park that day. Keep up the good work Rodney, there are those of us out there that appreciate all you do for the folks.

In my opinion, Rodney is all about self promotion. If he was really holding these events "for the kids" (typical political lingo), he would have not plastered his name all over every social media avenue available. Rule #1 in running for office, "Exposure, Exposure, Exposure!" Now, if he was truly being charitable, he wouldn't have to have a picture of himself with every single thing he does. It's actually becoming nauseating. How many people are on the city council? and how many people have aligned with him? Not every one on the council is out for personal gain. But they have had their fill of BS and simply want to move on to real city projects!

2:51 Real city projects? Do you mean $1600 xmas trees with $320 worth of handmade ornaments and a $? on/off switch? Or do you mean establishing a committee to hire an administrator of finances at a salary $175,000? I thought we just hired a CFO (chief financial officer) to do that job?

@2:51, programs and events are promoted by advertising, etc. Not much is newsworthy in the area, just look at front page headlines on newspaper. It quite simple for the press or other social media to do a photo op of events in this area. Don't be a hater, life is too short. Bless you and stay warm and have a good year. I enjoy reading articles and seeing pictures of community events that have positive results for our community.
