This is great news! Kudos to our city for their efforts in making this happen.

I thought the sand company interested in establishing a loading facility in Peru was EOG? When did Northern White Sand come on the scene and are they proposing the same type of facility? And, now it seems as though Northern will also store sand at their sight - True or False? Isn't Northern the business that Utica residents just had some trouble with? Just curious!

Could the sand "storage" facility pose any problems for the Peru Airport?

Ir traffic on Route 80?

Just wondering as I only know what was printed in the N.T.

Lois: That seems to be the only way we find out things any more - by investigative reporting on our part. i.e. reading news paper, disbursements, minutes and agenda of meetings, and attending meetings. Certainly haven't gotten any info from our so called "COMMITTEE AS A WHOLE" meetings. Transparency has disappeared in Peru government and I think it's a sad state of affairs.

Great news, 80 jobs and many other things in the pipeline. I bet this is killing some folks.

No on airport issues btw.

To 1:59PM, I don't think the news of 80 jobs is killing anybody. I also don't believe that Peru officials from the mayor on down should revieve any kudos for any of the "Sand Boom" related development. Peru's elected officials have no clue about attracting development. They are simply along for the ride taking instructions from the industry pros on what to do. Then they send minions like you out into the public to cheer-lead and hail the progress. The news won't kill anybody. What actually kills people is the Silicosis btw.

Reading the story in the Fish-Wrapper I was amused by the comment from the sand company attorney who played as if he was shocked that there was no opposition present at the "pre-determined" Plan Commission meeting arranged by the city of Peru. What the N-T reporter deliberately failed to report is that the general public was not even aware that Northern White Sand was planning this facility. This development was never mentioned in open meeting by any elected official and if that rag of a newspaper had knowledge of it they never printed a word about it until the story on Tuesday. Then they only report the time and place of the Plan Commission meeting in Wednesday's edition, the day of the meeting. How could any opposition or even an interested citizen be concerned about a development that nobody except the "politicians and insiders" had a damn clue was taking shape? Who would have time to develop an opinion or position on a matter that nobody knows about? Very clever city of Peru and attorney Duncan. There was no opposition to a massive industrial development the general public had no knowledge of at a meeting that the great majority of IV residents learned about when they got home from work an hour or two before the meeting began. What a shocker that nobody had came out against the project. For the record, I have no problem with this type of facility based on what information I have been able to gather about it and I think it will likely provide some very good paying jobs. That said, I'm getting really sick of this current group of mayor and aldermen operating exclusively in Closed Sessions cutting deals with officials from private companies on the ground floor of what is becoming a multi-billion dollar industry. I know this much though. With elected officials like Harl, Waldorf Sapienza, and Lukosus pretending to be bigshots about these deals, those company officials are laughing all the way to the bank. I repeat, I favor these projects for the most part. But I just shudder at the
thought of the incompetence of Peru's current
elected officials who have no clue how to responsibly represent my interests as a citizen of Peru.
Pretending to be a bigshot does not make you a bigshot. Peru has pretenders making very important mistakes with these secret deals. Council/Manager form of government in Peru must happen before the national economy makes a full rebound and new development takes off everywhere. Including Illinois.

Thank you 10:17 AM. I was actually reading the N.T. write up for the first time last night and like you, I thought when was this discussed in open meeting and then putting 2 and 2 together, I also came to the same conclusion that you did and the answer is never and that is the way this sneaky government is working. Sorry about the word but it is the only one that seems to apply to people who conduct business behind closed doors and have forgotten if they ever knew that they are public officials, I repeat PUBLIC and are dependent upon Taxpayer money. Operating pretty much like our Federal government and surprisingly they are of the same political persuasion.

10:17 - The plan commssion hearing is Dec 10, as reported by the paper, a full week in advance. It was mentioned at Monday's city council meeting that there was a meeting this week on sand. Notice on city website for all meetings. No effort to hide any meetings. The fiction you are creating is good though. You should consider a role as a campaign manager.

If I was Bureau county I'd be fighting annexation and want this money in my county !

I think 10:17 am should consider a role as mayor of Peru. What do you think about that 8:57 am?

anon 8:57 Dec. 6th
Take a good look at the listing for this meeting. It is not, and I repeat not, listed as a hearing.

BC will still get its share of property tax revenue. That border will not change. It will just be a part of Peru that is in BC. No laws that say a municipality must be contained in a single county.

Those who know and have worked with the campaign manager in 2009of the winning candidate and present incumbent Mayor have the upmost respect of him and will never give up on the idea of him being a Mayor or Aldermen some day.
Sadly his and many others only weakness politically has been the judgement and faith shown in a person who deceived all involved.
Yes, this person has tasted electorial losses but they have not destroyed his desire for political honesty, sound creative thought and progress of Peru. Personally I believe to not push for the political success of Steve Weberski in Peru and the few similar to him is to surrender on the thoughts of a future successful Peru.

9:22 PM (post not printed)

This individual did not ask to have this discussion to take place and I will not post your blog. Mainly because you don't understand or know the truth about what you wrote and I do, so let's let it disappear until if ever the information which is the truth can be told. Right now too many politicians are still in office.

To 5:12 pm, I agree. The man you speak of has no quit in him and he continues to work for quality government in Peru. Any person who is so hated and feared by the Peru establishment as much as Steve for being an advocate for honest government and open bidding has my support.
