Christmas Lighting Where is the Best

Many of you have probably seen the lighting on the old Westclox building on east Rte 6, if you have not please put this on your to see list as it is fantastic. One of the occupants of the building I am told has done or helped to do this display. Thanks to all throughout the city that have decorated their lawns, homes and businesses, nicely done.

I have also driven through Rotary Park in LaSalle in which the city is creating a drive through with lighted Christmas displays which is growing in size each year. Very nice and all ages will enjoy this ride thru.

Feel free to add any special Christmas lighting you would like to  suggest for viewing in public places, parks, businesses or homes.

27th Street in Peru south of HyVee, almost every home on that street is decorated.

Waste of electricity if you ask me. But, to each his own.

The wrapped trees at Westclox are amazing! Nice work!

I see that a representative from D&M is coming to the Public Services meeting Monday a.m. and is listed under public comment. We know what we paid them for the properties they cut for us this summer. However, aldermen do we have any actual figures on how much we previously paid city employees to do the same work? I believe it was mentioned that no records were kept so how can we make a true comparison? Don't we keep records of what we pay employees? Did we compare D&M's cost to the salaries we paid all our summer helpers even though they were not grass cutters?

Anonymous said...

Is the city comparing apples to apples when it comes to the grass cutting project? Or are we comparing apples to oranges?

Why the heck is a business that sells electric transformers donating $250 to the Scott Harl Campaign for Mayor?
This business is in Colman South Dakota of all places. Giving money to the campaign of a small town mayor 550 miles away.
Something fishy here. When is our council going to start questioning the mayor about things like this?

Get a life

12:53, I have one and it is nice. I wish to enable other people to have a life also. Part of that is stopping small town bosses.

@ 12:53 AM
11:11 and 11:24 do have a life and take a active interest in it not only yesterday, today but also tomorrow and join in a brotherhood that has the best interests of Peru, Illinois and The United States of America.
Today, with the technological advancements and communication systems that have been developed and all citizenship of Americca is exposed to only those who are gaining from the greed or those close to them refuse to acknowlege evident sins of local, state and national government.

@ 12:53 AM
I challenge you to answer those whom you have told to get a life with intellegent and truthful answers rather sarcasim. They have submitted good questions to the blog which you failed to answer and give reasons why you disagree with them.

Anonymous said...

12:53 Are your life experiences and world knowledge so limited that your only comment to those who question the practices of political leadership is "Get a life"?
People with your atitude make me wonder how you can face others of this country who realize how hard our citizenship has strived and fought for independence, our Declareation of Independece, our Bill of Rights, and our freedom . Yes they are still fighting for a right which you seem to take for granted the Freedom of Expression.
God Bless You and Merry Christmas.

In reference to 10:42 AM,s comment: How can the representative of D&M appear for comment to the Public Works Committee. Recently from reading the blog I understood that the Chairman of the Public Works Committee informed the originator and author of this blog that those in attendance did not have the right to express themselves at Public Works Committee meetings. Is this true, if it is why would he allow the pick and choose method to be used in a committee meeting he is in charge of?
Also in respect to citizen interest why wouldn't this meeting involving D&M be held in the evening after the holidays when all citizens involvement be honored? Recent evening discussions have filled the council chambers with active and outspoken citizenship which good government should be excited about.

Conducting the Public Works Committee meetings in the evening would enable people to attend. Chairman of the Public Works committee and 3rd ward alderman, David Waldorf, initial force of the no bid contract with TEST and probable suppoter of D&M no bid contract cannot justify his doubtful decisions.
His doubtful decisions only because there is question to whether these are his decisions or or decisions made by others who rely upon him as a alderman to communicate them.
There are many names for such who allow themselves to be manipulated. Edgar McCartney, Mortimer Snort and Howdy Doody are a few but no matter what the name a wooden headed puppet is a wooden headed puppet sitting on someones knee.

11:26, that if funny. All this time I thought he had his own head up there, not somebody else's hand. :)

I recommend everyone check out the decorations at my house. They are very nice if I do say so myself.

Also, be sure to check out the beautifully festive decorations at Mayor Harl's house and also down the street at Alderman Waldorf's house. Those two "Fireballs" must be too busy advancing our city to hang a string of lights off the porch. Great leaders by example.

We are going to start driving by people's houses now and posting it on the blog? What they do personally to decorate is really none of your business. Pathetic.

Bids were due today for all the junk vehicles and mowers. Mark my words the most they will get for everything all together is maybe $1500.00 to $2000.00. They should have sold everything in one group at the junk yard and would have got at least $2500.00. Mark my words they do not have a clue what they are doing. If I am wrong I will be done blogging.

10:11, are you saying they have no lights? If so, that is fine with me - I cannot stand to see electricity wasted on such vain displays of one-upmanships. Frankly, I think there should be a law against it.

Anonymous said...

Decorations. A lot of times it's the girlfriends, or wives that hang decorations, due to laziness. That's my take and experience with decorations in my 38 years of hanging decorations.

I stand by comments for you to get a life. The blog post is about xmas lights and you two morins rattle off about mowing and other nonsense. Also whatver the mayor or an alderman want to put up in terms of decorations is none of your business.

As far as it being a waste of electricity it is. But who cares have some holiday joy.

Also get a life

3:44, what you consider laziness might just be prioritization. :)

Today, December 23, is Festivus. Remember to put up your Festivus Pole and be sure air your grievances with your family and demonstrate feats of great strength before the Festivus Dinner tonight.

Thank you 11:07. Thank you!

I'm retiring from the blog. It has become a joke and many comments don't get posted which is well known among people who actually post. No freedom of thought or expression here unless it fits the political conveniences of others. Pretty sad, but moving on!

11:07 What the Mayor and Aldermen put up in terms of decorations my business, your business and everyone eles's business. If it is none of my business why did Harl use the slogan that we were going to take our town back to the citizens in 2009. Nice Xmas decorations are great but when voting for a Mayor and/or alderman Xmas decorations are not one of my priorities.

Bye Bye 10:01 am. You will not be missed as you have nothing to offer anyway.

City web site under resident news are the bids for vehicles and equipment. Looks like city took in about 30 thousand. Great work Peru!
138 what say you?

Anonymous said...

Rest assure 10:01, you will still be creepin this forum. Merry Christmas to all.

Anonymous said...

It would be nice to see the city of Peru do something like laSalle did at rotery park.
But it also takes the residents to step up and do it too.
Merry Christmas to all.

Anonymous said...

8:28 it takes the leadership of the city leaders to step up and get something going in Peru. Then the residents can pitch in and help.

With end of 2014 and start of 2015 rapidly happening what are Mayor Harls plans for the presentation to the citizenship of a State of the City?
Personally I believe the Mayor owes this respect to the towns citizens more so than to local clubs which he presently does speak to.
In 6 short years Peru has become so ripe for a young energetic, progressive candidate for Mayor. Lets hope that someone such as this is listening.

Anonymous said...

Anon 10:20 AM Interesting that you mention that Peru is ripe for a new Mayor. You are not the only person with these beliefs and with the acceptance of all in todays political world don't be surprized to find a woman in the race. With the chance of Hillary running for President it could be a huge advantage for a woman to enter the Peru Mayors race. Presently many of the truly outstanding attorneys of the area are women.
It would be better for Peru to have a young Mayor who has further ambitions to fulfill in life than be a multi term Mayor only using the position for self gain.

Anonymous said...

We don't need a "progressive" Mayor - we need a "conservative" Mayor. We have been living the Progressive nightmare for the last six years on a national, state, and local level.
As far as H.R. Clinton for President goes - beyond the scope of this blog, but I'm LMAO.

Anonymous said...

Anon 2:23 Peru has not been progressive for the last 6 years, unless you consider 1 step forward 5, 6 steps backward progress.

I do consider the road improvement program a huge plus but do not find any other positives with way too many no no's.

Anonymous said...

the meaning of "progressive" in a political sense is a person advocating or implementing social reform or new, liberal ideas.

Anonymous said...

If I became mayor, first and foremost would do some firing and job description cuts. Unlike what Harl has done in his administration. I would have equal opportunity employment where a fair application and hiring process would ensue. A resume would be required, and all information would be verified to be true.

Anonymous said...

If I became Mayor, first and foremost the baker would be the baker, the banker would be the banker, the candlestick maker would be the candlestick maker and everbody else would be the knowledgeable, experienced master of their own trade and no one would be jack of all master of none.
All administrative wages would be reverted to what they were 6 years ago and those in favor of resigning would recieve a friendly goodbye. The 1st hire would be a certified, experienced city manager to raise this town to a professional level.

Anonymous said...

6:24, nice try, as Mayor you just can't change the form of government we have now to a City Manager type, first thing I would do if I ran for Mayor would be to study up on the do's and don'ts of the office and then work from there.

Anonymous said...

Peru has had too many Mayors who have studied the do's and dont's of the office and worked the dont's from there.
Presently Peru has someone making a effort to be a City Manager who does not have the education or needed experience. This person has the ultimate cooperation of the Mayor.

Anonymous said...

Anon 7:37 PM Life, management all become pretty simple when one reverts back to basic's.
You don't have to come from the hills to have heard, "A lttle knowledge about everything is a dangerous thing".
This also applies to those who have been hired for a specific purpose in city government.
Solely to expand one's responsibility for a increased pay check does not necessarly increase ones knowledge resulting in a weaking of the establishment. Popularity should be left to the elected officials. expertise should be left to the appointed. The theory of a jack of all trades, master of none never was efficient, is outdated and presently destroying Peru to satisfy the will of one person not 10,000. Hopefully the upcoming vote will prove this.

You naysayers are aware that we have reduced personnel expenses in the city the last several years, correct? We have less employees and the total employee costs have dropped, not increased. I'm just bring up this fact not because of any reason other than I prefer facts over the way things are shared in forums such as this.

I especially double check facts when people start spouting party line BS like some of you do here. Party talking points are rarely based in fact, regardless of your party preference.

Actually for you critics, so has the federal government. The federal government is spending less than it was several years ago. So is the state of Illinois. In fact, the last I checked, Illinois has less public employee expenditures per capita than any other state in the union. We DO need to resolve the pension thing, but outside of that, this is a true statement.

I vote republican and consider myself a fiscal conservative, but I hate lies. Look all of these things up yourself. Facts are facts.
