Pictures on front page of newspaper are enough for me. Public Health and its protection is one of the main reasons government was established, not established for corporate profits.
When someone has to sweep fine sand off their sidewalk and driveway plus what blows into their yard and house and was never in the equation before the sand corporation was established makes it a bad neighbor which I don't need or want. I will let those who are medically trained to explain the connection to silicosis and the possible results.

I agree it is a nuisance and something should be done by the company to minimize it. However, this is no different than the "problem" in LaSalle and Illinois Cement.
You say "corporate profits" like it they are a dirty four letter word. My friend, without corporate profits we would not exist as a country. Corporate profits are good! Without them, our county and state would be nothing but a bunch of dirt farmers. Get over it, sand mining is here for the duration. Get used to it. Hopefully we can do something to make Illinois Coal easier to use so we can revive that industry as well.

I forgot to mention - concerning farming. I think burning the chaff and corncobs in the fields pose a much larger problem than a little sand blowing on a very windy day. Every year the farmers are burning stuff and this is much more unpleasant than some sand on a windy day.

I have a question. We live in an area of many small towns and whenever something controversial is wanting to come into the area, it is always to Peru. What's up, do they know better than to apply elsewhere?

There is a lot of open space between here and there. Why Peru, is our land better than theirs?

Location - proximity to the rail and the interstate. Also, now that county zoning is in place, it is much easier to work with a municipality.
At the County level, they tend to shy away from taking land out of agricultural production. That is why some of the development must be annexed into a municipality.

We need some different people on the county board. LaSalle County will not develop unless the county loosens its grip on the land.
On a state of national level, we need to do away with the ethanol subsidies. We have plenty of oil now and we DO NOT need to burn food. If we do away with ethanol subsidies the price of farm land will go down - the land can then be opened up to other types of development.

The only true blog is a blog in which one must include their name with their comment. Presently the majority of comments are tainted by the commentator with only a few commenting without intentions of personal gain. The administrator of this blog donates her time and material without personal gain and always identifies her comments. She has accomplished much for the community with this blog.

If you use your real name there has been and will continue to be reprisals from our local government.

By local government are you referring to Peru? This is not the 1st time I have heard similar remarks from people who do not exaggerate. When questioned they replied that government normally takes good care of its own but this government body has left its mark on the previous city engineer, two building inspectors, a administrative assistant and a displeased budget director. I apologize to anyone not mentioned and offer them the opportunity to step forward.
