I heard there is another petition floating around to change how aldermen are elected. Are they going to set up a table at the grocery store? I don't like people going door to door and don't answer when somebody comes nocking.
Heard a wiled rumor around town. It sounds like our own Boss Harl has been approached by senior Illinois Democrats - very senior, top level. They have asked him to challenge Sue Rezin in the next election.
I was reading Kristy's blog about the last concert and that Clerk Bartley had to pick up a $2,500 check from Lou's LaGrotto. How about Lou's LaGrotto dropping off a check at city hall. I'd guess Bartley picked up the check on city time. Another waste of our money for a private individual's profit.
To 8:52 PM, Would love to see that. As a lifelong democrat I would relish the opportunity to cross over to support the republican against Harl. Hell, I would have a Rezin sign at my Peru residence and I would be happy to go door to door handing out Rezin campaign literature. Bring it on Harl. Your political career will end right where it started. You are done!
So the Pizza Lady can't afford a stamp? Most businesses either transfer the funds electronically or they put the check in the mail. Mr. Bartley probably went to pick up the check because he got tired of waiting for it. Probably sat in the office until she strained a muscle picking up the pen to write it.
The Democratic Party as well as the Republican Party will send out feelers to test the waters of politics. Mayor Harl does not need to concern himself in running against Senator Sue Rezin. The Chairman of the LaSalle County Board has shown interest and he is much higher in the political ladder than the Mayor of 10,000.

It's people like you and others in Peru with narrow-minded views of the world refusing to answer your door and listen to someones working to improve this city that ensures Peru will continue to elect the kind of sub-standard representation that we currently have. Open your eyes and answer your damn door. What the hell's wrong with you?
11:12 If you contact me and make an appointment I will answer the door. But just some random "Jamoke" nocking at my door will be met with silence. Persistent nocking will be met with a call to the police. Door to door salesman, either for a political, religious, or commercial purpose is something from the past. It is way to dangerous - financially and physically - to answer the door. In fact, when the "Jamoke" nocks on my front door, I go to the back to see if his friend is getting ready to break in the back door.
Unless it is food delivery, a package delivery, or somebody I am expecting, the door stays locked - I don't even bother looking to see who it is. There are so many ways to communicate before meeting face to face, there is no reason for anyone to EVER show up at another person's front door unannounced. I know if I order food. I know when packages will be delivered - it is easy to arrange an exact time with FEDEX and UPS. Friends and family call ahead of time. When somebody I don't recognize is at my front door, I get slightly uneasy. Like the previous poster said, it is a good idea to check the back to see if somebody is checking out the back door. Many home invasions start with a simple knock at the door. My advise to anyone that experiences this is to simply not answer the door. Keep you phone just a little closer to you. If you have a weapon for home defense, take it out of safe storage and make it ready. We are not far from Chicago - less than three hours to downtown on a good day. Those people have cars also and Peru is easy pickings for the thugs from Cook County.
People should also understand that the police have no legal obligation to protect individuals. Their only obligation is to investigate the crime and do what they can to find the culprit. Never answer your door after dark. If you are able to use one keep a firearm handy (locked if you have children).
You people who are admitting that you live in a constant state of fear and paranoia when someone knocks on your door in Peru need to get some counceling. My sympathies for your affliction.
Advice not needed people are just using good common sense. Several older residents have been taken advantage of through the knock and keep the resident busy while someone else gets in through another way. This is no longer the community where it is safe to keep your doors unlocked. I know people in surrounding cities also lock their doors even while out doing yard work. There is one religious affiliation who still practice the knock on door method to find new members and they need to revise their mission.
9:55, it is not fear and paranoia, it is reality. Criminals are, for the most part, lazy. They will find the easiest mark. Make their job hard - don't open the door. Don't worry yourself about offending someone collecting petition signatures. They should have the decency to call and ask - or send a letter - or set up a table in a public place. Nope. I ain't going to answer the door. Not going to happen.
going door to door is so 20th Century. Get with the times and get a web page to collect your petitions. Nobody, and I mean nobody will talk to you at the door.
There is one thing police shouldn't have to do. That is open 'locked out' cars. They can do a license check to make sure the person isn't trying to steal the car and then tell them to call a locksmith. They will learn to control their keys when they see how much the locksmith will charge. A good lesson in car owner responsibility.
I don't even answer the phone unless I recognize the name / number on caller ID. On top of that, depending on their message, I usually end up blocking the number.

That is a good idea.
Due to some incorrect information given out by LaSalle County Clerks office, there is going to be a delay until next spring on the referendum.
Being a city that is begging to be governed by its citizens, what does the population believe should be the topic on the referendum?
