Again a meeting time that is not convenient for most working people.

I'm really disappointed with the lack of consideration for the residents of Peru who would be interested in attending these committee meetings if they were held in the evening.

Are those the right members of this committee??? I thought it was Potthoff, Radke, Perez, Ferrari, Harl??? Can someone verify the actual members???

It is by design that these meetings are held when most people are at work. When everyone was clamoring to have the council meetings recorded, Boss Harl just chuckled to himself. It is a rare event when something is actually discussed in the Council Meeting - all the decisions are made in the Committee and the council just hold a formal vote during the meeting of the full council.
We should be demanding that the committee meetings be recorded!

Lois, The agenda you have posted is different from the one currently on the city website and the committee members are different on each. What's the deal?

On a serious note, there are 2 very important issues on this agenda, the discussion to hire a Chief Financial Officer and the Concerts for a Cause. Many have expressed thoughts about hiring a City Manager and usually a person who has the job with a city also deals with the Finances. Is talk about hiring a Chief Financial Officer a way to not discuss a City Manager. Is somebody on the council interested in the next mayors race and would this take away his interest in the position?
Second Concerts for a Cause is not being discussed adequately. I know the police and fire will say they can handle whatever problems that occur. The point is that beside the fact that the city should NOT be involved in any concert that is not for the sole benefit of this city or the residents rhereof. Watch the disbursements at the first of August or end of July for any expenses associated with it that are not reimbursed. This would mostly be from the concert a few weeks ago and not the one coming up in August. Has anyone heard what Lostant schools will get from the last concert?

Hiring a CFO is just hiring another employee that falls under the direction of the Mayor. We need to change the form of government in order to get a City Manager that has the statutory authority manage the city - otherwise, we just have a high priced political appointee that will do the bidding of the political rulers.
If we change to the Council Manager form of government, the manager does not answer to the Mayor. In fact, the Mayor just becomes a figure head - although he does get to vote on every issues (not just to break a tie). The important fact is, the Mayor will not be able to tell any employee what to do. The Council will not be able to tell any employee what to do. The Manager will run the City. If the Council and Mayor don't like it, they will need to fire him (or her) with a majority vote.

Laughable - this agenda does not include Perez. Harl is trying to make Rodney disappear!!!

The amended agenda is now posted on the city website.

He is no longer Boss Harl, he is Rahm Harl. Welcome to Chicago Politics - brought to you by the honest upstanding citizens of Local 150, buying the best politicians for almost 100 years now.

I hope that there is a person who is going to be on the ballot for the election in 2017 that is running for Mayor of Peru. And this person is taking notes of how Harl has been running the city. Use this information while campaigning and have public forum meetings and inform taxpayers. Start from scratch, wipe the slate clean as to everybody who has been in Harls boys club! I mean everybody and businesses.

Regarding the aug 16 concert, according to their website, Suicide Girls is a burlesque show. Is that what we want to bring to Peru?

Were the mayor or any of the aldermen aware of the nature of the next concert? Because if they were aware, and they allowed this type of event to come to Peru, they should all be ashamed of themselves. If they were unaware, shame on them for not being on top of this. I don't want this crap in our town.

The amended agenda for the new committee meeting now lists Perez. Funny though that Perez is listed last. Perez & Radtke were elected at the same time, so they have been on the council the same amount of time. They should be listed alphabetically.

Will Ferrari be able to attend this meeting since it is at 4:00? Why would the mayor schedule a meeting knowing one of the aldermen cannot make it?

Wonder if the volunteers will enjoy that concert. No need to be paid.

12:31 PM

Yes it is burlesque and the aldermen and the mayor are will aware of what is going to take place and seem to have no problem with it. I wonder if the religious ministers in this community and others close by have any idea of what will at the concert.
I was actually looking through you tube videos and could not find one that was not actually too raunchy and I could post but all so far no luck. Check it out yourself and then call all your aldermen and the mayor.

Everybody has personal taste in concert venues. I'm not a fan of these types of concerts. The city is involved with these concerts in which the promotor makes tons of money on, even though promoting them as charity. This being said, the city should have taken note as to venues. I strongly do not think our city or airport should be involved what so ever. Are our alderman/mayor smart enough to do research prior to approving this type of concert? I hope all their kids, grandchildren go. If they do, that's says a lot about them. My opinion.

Some of the names have changed, but this is essentially the same council that wanted to bring a "dog pull" to Baker Lake - until somebody told them what a "dog pull" was.
Most Peru's "Ruling Class" just don't take the time to think things through.
What really bothers me is that stuff talked about on this blog is only the tip of the iceberg. It makes you wonder about what is really hidden deep.

All people would have to do is ask people who know the truth about things, who tell the truth and can prove it.

Took a ride past Washington Park today and must say it's looking good. Mulch has been added around the trees, baseball diamond is being watered, weeds are being killed, umbrellas are up over the concrete benches, etc., etc. My only question and problem with this is why can't we keep are parks in this shape year-round? Why do we have to impress the out-of-towners who come here for central states? Why can't we, the taxpayers of Peru enjoy this beauty all year every year?

Anonymous said...

Our parks look good all the time. I think what you are seeing is what we all do went we are having guests or a "party" at our homes. We always spruce things up a bit. We by far have the nicest parks in the area. My nephew plays ball and I have been to everyone the last few years. 343 the parks are in shape the rest of the year. You are nothing but a negative city hater with a sad life! You should tell Russ and Jeff W to there faces.

3:43 Thank you for your question. I still noticed 2 ft weeds around the phone poles, but it does look much better. I think someone still needs to weed eat around the curbs though. Kind of nasty.

Anonymous said...

7:03 That's not true. As of today weeds are growing up along fencing, sprouts at the base of trees are overpowering the trees themselves, branches are hanging way too low, equipment is in dire need of replacement or painting, sand needs to be added for safety under all equipment, etc.

Anon 10:30, when it involves weeding and trimming didn't we hire that out to save money on summer help, you are probably one who complained about the summer help. I think we have more summer help this year than last year, so I will be surprised to see how much the city saved .

Anonymous said...

Are Russ and Jeff W still doing any work in the parks? I think that was hired out.

The weeds along the curbs of West Street are gone. I agree with 7:03 that most of the time our parks are decent. Washington is getting special treatment for the tournament. I would also like to see the weeds along the curbs removed more often than just for the tournament.

not true 1030 as much as you must want it to be that way. Nice agenda anti Peru!

Anonymous said...

10:30 I didn't blame anyone in particular for the condition some of our parks are in. Yes, we did hire some of the work out. I'm not sure who is supposed to be trimming but I can verify that some of it is not being done by anyone.

Anonymous said...

1143 either get off your rear and your high horse, stop complaining or either volunteer to help or call the city and nicely suggest what you think can be done that is not being done.I have done that and have bee getting immediate results. If you don't do one of those your agenda is pretty obvious. Now lets hear how that is something a perfect citizen like should not have to do.

Anonymous said...

Volunteers are not allowed in Peru. Could you imagine what would happen if somebody just started cutting grass and trimming weeds in the park. The union would file a grievance and the contractor would also complain.
Peru is anti-volunteer unless you volunteer to help with the Mayor's golf extortion.... I mean outing.

Anonymous said...

1:11 Nobody is complaining. Just stating fact. And, I too have made suggestions and gotten no where. I have no agenda other than to make Peru a better place to live. It's people like you and attitudes like yours that make things unpleasant.

How can a minor attend any concert at the airport without a parent or legal guardian in their accompaniment when a liquor license has been purchased specifically for this event?
Also there are ordinances for the liquor laws pertaining to nudity and semi nudity.
Are the concerts granted certain political favors because Peru city officials are neck deep with the concerts.
It is time to elect city officials who want to govern the city and government business.

@6;00 PM Excellent comment. The same ordinances created by the council are those not enforced by themselves in particular situations.
Ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law.
