About Romeoville Athletic and Events Center

This is interesting and wonder how many of you believe that Peru might be a suitable location for this type of facility?

I didn't pull this out of the air, a presentation was made at the Finance mtg this afternoon.

Added 4/19/14
Along the same idea, the following paragraph was taken from the March 5, 2014 Accounts and Finance mtg minutes: Economic Development Director Bob Vickrey reviewed a promotional poster targeting a specific entertaining venue prospect. Mr. Vickrey presented a marketing plan for the site selection magazine for the next budget year for approximately $12,000.

No further explanation was given and does it or does it not fit in with the presentation.

This looks like another opportunity for complete mismanagement and inefficiency that Peru excels in. A bad idea to invest millions in something that cannot possibly be understood and operated by the current officials of the city of Peru. They would "muck" it in a heartbeat.

Someone should inform the Economic Development Director of the overwhelming conflicting services a Sports Complex would have in common with the YMCA. I don't trust Peru officials to properly manage the Minor League Field let alone a multi-million dollar indoor facility. For crying out loud, these people can't even staff their own departments with professional managers. Peru's elected officials should never be allowed to enter into a financial investment like this that will only be abused politically by the insiders to provide jobs for friends and family. This is a "Boondoggle" from the start.
This is the type of project that could only succeed with a group of elected officials who possess an abundance of the following qualities, Competentcy, Honesty, and Integrity. Sorry Peru, you fail to meet the minimum standards for any of those qualities.

Almost as bad as letting the City of Chicago own and manage a casino. NO! We simply cannot allow Peru to enter into a venture like this. If our 7 Wise Men and their Boss want to do something like this, let them invest their own money. This is not a function of government! Get the pipes, poles, and streets fixed - forget about providing entertainment, that includes bogus charity events!

Lois, who made the presentation?

The presentation was made by an architect from Elgin who has local ties.

An architect from Elgin? Yes, another "Music Man" trying to bamboozle the local yokels.

You know what is so damn infuriating to me? This presentation was allowed and endorsed by this committee and this council, right? As it should have been. That's wonderful. So these elected officials are open to new ideas and progressive proposals from "outsiders", but only if the new ideas or proposals don't jeapordize the "gravy train" of any of Peru's establishment business interests. They will allow this individual or company to make a sales pitch for a project worth millions, BUT just last summer they refused to allow a representative from a competitor of TEST, Inc to even address the council. In fact, several aldermen, the clerk, and the mayor actually berated the lady who wished to speak to the council and told her she was not welcome in Peru. This kind of phony crap has got to stop.
We have got to start to elect people who understand what it really means to represent a community. We are in desperate need of some integrity in this city.

So, which "local connection" wants to sell a large building? Don't see much happening with the empty furniture store on Shooting Park Road.

This would be new construction in Peru and I believe they said on about 11 acres.

Isn't it about time to purchase another truck? How about that building we "rent" from the nail company? We also need some four wheelers for the connected kids to ride around on this summer. Then there is the Regional Mayors Lunch with all the free breadsticks they can stuff down their gullet. No shortage of things for Peru to waste money on, I mean invest in. Far Out and Keep on Trucking! After all, its not real money - we have years to pay it off. Well, I guess its time for Coffee, bitter bitter coffee, then take a nap and get up in time to watch Vanna. I hope I can find that dang clicker.

A city clerk is a clerk! What clout does a clerk have? Is another position within the clerk's position that we're unaware of?

Anonymous said...

The clerk is usually the most powerful person in a municipal government. He is there everyday. He has access to all the records. He knows were the skeletons are.

Anonymous said...

That's a great description 7:11, skeletons. Do you mean that a clerk can play with paperwork?

Anonymous said...

I'm pretty sure the "skeleton" packed her bags after the 2009 municipal election and moved to North Carolina.
She packed her Desk-Top Computer from the office containing that pesky Hard-Drive as well.

Anon 7:11 He should know where all the skeletons are he is one of them getting paid four years as City Treasurer during the Baker administration doing nothing. You can remove the spots from a leopard but you will still have a leopard.

Anon 8:38 I picture that the hard drive pertained to the majority of the city business conducted by the former city clerk of 16 years and all other city officials.
Since this hard drive would contain the historical background of the majority of Peru city business why was the taking of the hard drive allowed.
Peru politics has a long history of such shady dealings and as evidenced by the recent ghost payroll the present is no better.

The story as it was told to me was that the defeated City Clerk in 2009, Judy Heuser, was allowed to "purchase" the Desk-Top Computer that was in her office at city hall.
As ridiculous as this sounds, you have to take into consideration the mindset and emotional turmoil of the out-going administration in 2009. Don Baker and Judy Heuser were both just defeated and were no doubt both in a state of shock and disbelief. The aldermen at the time were equally stunned.
The interim period between the election and the new mayor and clerk taking office was about four weeks or so. During that interim period it was widely talked about how Judy was "holed up" in her office with the door closed with no one allowed in there other than her niece who was a city employee at the time and is still employed by the city as "adminstrative assistant". Whatever happened in that office during that interim period pertaining to records, documents, computers, e-mails, or whatever, we will likely never know. All I know for sure is this. When a sitting Mayor or City Council, or both allows an out-going City Clerk to "purchase a computer" that is city property and that computer likely contains files of city records, that is very unusual and unsettling indeed.
My opinion is that right from the start, Harl had no idea how to lead. He failed to anticipate the potential for such funny business. He should have planned for some sort of transition to monitor the out going officials. So much time passed in that interim period that we will likely never know what files or records, if any, were actually removed from city offices in 2009. Too bad.
