It Appears There is a Failure to Communicate

I have a listing of 2013 city council meetings scheduled for the year made up by the city and it shows a meeting for the date of August 12 and those who were interested in attending have looked for an agenda of which there is none on the city web site. They may post one at city hall and use that as an excuse so we will need to see what surfaces tomorrow.

I do know that we went through this with a complaint to the A.G. one other time. Perhaps they are distracted down at City Hall.

If the agenda was not posted a full 24 hours in which the city hall was open to the public for normal business hours is it legal to have a city council meeting? If city halls doors are opened to the public and the agenda is posted at this time at 8AM Monday and the council intends to meet at 7:30 the same Monday evening this is only 11 1/2 hours and they should not be allowed to gather for a quorum. Yes the last administration had to cancel a city council meeting because a agenda was not publicized properly.

The agenda has to be posted 48 hours before a meeting and because the city has a web-site it also has to be posted on it. Failure to do so violates the OMA.

The meeting tonight, if there is one, is not listed on the calendar on the city website either. I would think that should have been done as soon as the calendar came out and all council meeting dates were known.

If indeed there was supposed to be a city council meeting tonight or any other night this week it's not posted on the city calendar that is on the city web-site.

There was not a meeting last week either.

As of 10:30 this morning the agenda for tonight's apparent council meeting has been posted. This is in direct violation of the Open Meetings Act. I believe the same thing happened during Mayor Baker's term and the meeting had to be canceled. When are we as a city going to stop violating rules and not following ordinances that we ourselves have established???

The agenda is on the website now. I see the council is going to vote on selling the ESDA building to Harl's good friends who own Brandy's. Why wasn't the sale of this building offered to the general public? Dirty dealings in Peru. If this passes tonight, I will be calling the Attorney General and anybody else that needs to be called, and let them know there is fraud happening in Peru. Who is to say the building wouldn't sell for more than the appraised value if the public was made aware this property is for sale? Did Biederstedt appraise this property? He's only licensed to appraise residential property, not commercial property. Will Schweickert allow this illegal act to happen?

I have been informed by the Peru City Clerk that the problem was caused by an update to the city web site sometime after the clerks office had placed the agenda online. The update by Connecting Point was the cause and the city contacted the A.G. and they agreed it was not the fault of the city and therefore the meeting could take place.

And you actually believe 1:41 what
Comes out of clerks office? Always a excuse and always placing blame elsewhere to get the heat off certain people .

Wonder why the Friends for the Peru Pool agenda wasn't affected by this update? It was posted 8/9 just as the council agenda would have been posted.

The Attorney General's office is 100% useless and I can't believe I am saying this but we should all thank her daddy for not allowing her to run for governor.

If the agenda had been posted on Friday 8/9/13 why then is it dated 8/12/13?

I have also noticed that the calendar on the left hand side of the peru web page lists the daily events. The pool meeting and the public property meeting have been listed on there since Friday but the council meeting was not. Now it is??? STRANGE!!!

Does anyone know who the internet provider is for the city?

Anon 3:58 You as well as everyone else knows why it is dated 8/12/13. You would think that the way the so called leaders of this administration carried on and forced a cancellation of a city council meeting during the Baker Administration that they would be too ashamed of themselves to not post a agenda 48 hours before the meeting but still conduct it. People who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

LIstening to the NUMEROUS complaints I assume you are all running for office at the next election....or is it just that much fun leveling complain after complaint on the blog?

We don't need an all, just one good candidate per ward and for mayor to run against most of the incumbents and this will be a for sure. Petitions will be taken out at the appropriate time.

7:32 could you possibly explain this uniquely Illinois Valley attitude that voters should not complain, unless they are willing and able to run for office?

It has no logic, it is absolutely impractical and irrational, but it has appeared time and time again. People can not complain about the mayor because they voted out the other one, cannot complain about the fraudulent concerts unless they donate more money than them, etc.

We are not relegated to the mothers chapel to be silent as many would have it. There are many good alternatives discussed here, and the pro city admin never bothers to engage in logical factual debate. If anyone only complains, it is them. They just don't like to be questioned.

Most people that live in the Illinois Valley love their politicians just like they love their sausage. In both cases, they don’t want to know what they are made of and they never question the cook.

John, you had me worried. So good to hear from you again. Once again I have to agree with you 110%. Please appear more often as you and the ADS are always informative in a enjoyable manner. Hope this reply finds you in good health and preparing for the aldermans election of 2015.
