I see on Monday's city council agenda that we are awarding the street contract to the low bidder Len Trovero. Can anyone tell us if there were any other bids and by whom and how close were they to Trovero's. I'm pretty sure in the past there has been occasions where we have only received 1 bidder. Question why and if this happened again this time.

Recall a few years ago the City didn't do road work b/c the bid from Trovero was too high.

I have seen posts here and there that are curious about Jim Giordano Jr’s past and his business adventures in LaSalle. For those of you that are intrigued by Junior after hearing him speak so well at the WLPO debate, tread lightly and WITH CAUTION. To answer those of you that are curious about his past, here is what is known.

Junior’s father, Jim Sr., worked at Chamlin’s and eventually parted ways to start up his own company, Giordano Engineering Association. Along the way, Jim Sr. took a few of Chamlin’s employees along with him. Junior’s role was to be the face of the company, as well as a design engineer and made a lot of their business decisions. Their office was located at what is now Skoog’s Steak House. Giordano Engineering’s major clients were the City of LaSalle and the City of Oglesby. In the early 90’s the City of LaSalle established a million dollar street program in which Giordano was going to charge them OUTRAGEOUS rates. These obvious overcharges created a divide amongst council members in LaSalle and the few council members that did still support their services were lost during problems in the design of a water treatment facility that once built people found their clothes turning a reddish-orange color after washing them and meat was becoming discolored while cooking or boiling in water. The water plant took the City months to fix. All the above events and information were published by the News Tribune at the time. Junior was involved in a lot of these decisions and his attempts to overcome the overcharging, mismanagement of staff, and the water treatment re-design fell short and led the City of LaSalle to part ways with his company. Junior has always been about his own personal agenda. Do not be surprised if he has a plan to benefit greatly off of being Mayor of Peru. I have spoken with former employees that worked under him, to say the least; they would not work for him again. Junior had every opportunity to help establish a business that would thrive in this area, but failed to do so. After a short existence, Giordano Engineering Association had to close its doors. I happened to be listening to the WLPO debate and shook my head as Jim highlighted his private sector business experience. I wonder what his definition of “success” is…

Whoever does the blacktopping it seems the streets go to pot in a couple of years. I'm not an engineer, but I think that after grinding, they should fill the cracks before laying down the blacktop.

The life of a good blacktop is 8years whereas the life of a cement road is all of 20.
Very interesting to read Candidate Mike Harts advertisement in the Friday edition of the News Trib on page B6. Mike cites that
some of Perus' cash with the present low interest rates could be used to fund the Peru Police Pension account which is 26% below fiscal responsibility and is not being addressed.
Mike is absolutely correct as we are presently seeing the first of a trend of cities being allowed to declare bankrupsy by judicial courts because of inability to support pension funds. Stockton, California is a example.
Mike instituted a plan while on the infrastructure committeede in 2011 which would cost Peru nothing. Plan completed by Chamlin Engineering cost Peru $35,000. Anytime a person can show that he in one plan can save more than one year of his salary for his employer you had best take a good look at him. Especially if it is involving Peru Politics.
Mike Hart is proving himself to be the outstanding candidate for Mayor of Peru and deserves to be elected Tuesday April 9th.

WOW  Mike Hart has discovered that interest rates are low on Cash deposits.
WOW Mike Hart has discovered Peru Police Pension is Underfunded.

Sorry 7:28
This is NOT Breaking news.  If 4 year old revelations are forming Mike Harts campaign then my prediction of election night is right on.

Mike Hart comes in a distant second. But he will get more votes than the Mayor who presided over the underfunding of all the Pensions for Peru  Employees.

Predictor of Peru Election

3:01 Thank you for the update. Thought something was fishy.

9:19 I take it your vote is for the old guy that lacks basic skills. This area is full of unintelligent voters and gives a guy like Baker a chance. It really is sad if we elect someone in that type of mental state.

What are we going to do after Harl wins this election? Counting the votes by talking to people, it might be close but Harl is going to win.

Did you know that Gary Hylla kicked Mike Hart out of his office for asking certain questions? How's that for open and honest government? I hope when Mike Hart wins this election that Gary Hylla resigns. Bye bye Harl and Hylla!

Good luck Mike Hart at the debate today as well as with the election on Tuesday! Time for a change for sure!!!

(X) Michael (Mike) Hart

WRONG!! I predict Mike Hart as WINNER (I hope).

PPE 9:19 You seem very confident and sarcastic. I think you would have more credibility if you change your attitude, I myself do not like cocky politicians.

The ads seem confusing, who is actually running for Mayor, Hylla or Harl?

9:19 had "his"usual to much to drink last night.

The citizens of Peru are looking for a strong leader, and if Mike Hart shows that quality today you could be looking at the next mayor. We do not want a politician!

When you vote for Mayor do not forget about the fiasco on Venture Drive. Remember the 1100 signatures that the Mayor and council would not recognize. Remember the businesses saying how much money they were loosing because of this design. Harl has to go.

11:03 I think ignored would be a better choice of words.

Anonymous said...

I hope that question is asked at the debate.

Anonymous said...

11:03. Two of the council did want to recognize those signatures. Perez and Mayszak. Just remember how Harl treated those business owners/managers when they came to a council meeting. He said if they kept speaking, they would be escorted out of the council chambers by the police chief. Remember also that a disgruntled Pickleball player told Alderwoman Mayszak to shut up, but Harl didn't say a word about that.

Wouldn't it be great if HART ASKED HARL ABOUT HIM BEING TOLD TO LEAVE HYLLAS OFFICE BECAUSE OF QUESTIONS BEING ASKED, HEAR HARLS RESPONSE. Whenever I have seen political ads in a paper with persons picture, all I wanna do is puke!!! I see the deceitfulness and fakeness in their faces and smiles. HOW CAN THOSE PEOPLE SLEEP AT NIGHT? Evidently, they have no intercity and absolutely no transparency!! HART FOR MAYOR!

Anonymous said...

10:18. Lol. I thought the same thing. Is it Hylla or Harl running for mayor???

Anonymous said...

Anon 1:28 From the times that Harl appears to be sawing logs at council meetings he has trouble sleeping nights. Are you saying that Hylla does not practice transparency?
