There Will Be a 4 Way Mayoral Race in Peru in April

Thursday James J. Giordano filed his petition for mayor and former Mayor Baker did the same on Friday, said city clerk Dave Bartley .

Mayor Scott Harl and newcomer Michael Hart previously filed to run.

The last day to file for local municipal elections is Wednesday, Dec. 26.

Giordano’s name will appear third on the ballot on April 9, and Baker’s will appear fourth. The top position on the ballot will be determined next week.

a lottery drawing on the 27th at 9 a.m., Bartley said.

Peru city elections are nonpartisan with no primary

Looking at the list of names, my question would be how big a part will money play in this election and what will be the role of labor unions? I know Mayor Harl, Mike Hart, Don Baker but not James Giordano. It is unfortunate that I believe 2 of the candidates are from the First Ward that no one thought the seat of alderman was important enough to run for. Is there any joining of hands behind the scenes to muddy the waters?

Absolutely the WRONG thing to happen if you want to change. All this is going to do is spread the vote around, and statistics prove that with a large field running, the incumbent's position increase greatly. Will also be very interesting to see how the sign ordinance is complied with.

I respectfully disagree 10:19. If Mayor Baker was not one of the candidates then maybe your theory is valid. I feel that with the decisions Harl has made in his term residents will vote for anyone but him. He has shown no leadership skills other than his bully mentality which people do not like. If he would have had any chance in April his attitude needed to change long before now. So the more candidates the more choices for the voters. But just my opinion.

if you want to run its your right. the more the better- shows interest

There is always the chance that the current Mayor will be indicted. Don't give up hope :).

For what 11:48. As much as I am disappointed in him I think that is an absurd statement you made. Back it up with some solid information.

Too many running. 10:19 is correct and understands how it works. Votes will be split up enough and the union boys will re-elect Harl. GAME OVER! Only way to beat him is 1 on 1.

It won't matter. Harl will win. He has so much money given to him by people doing business with the City that there will be s sign on every corner. He will buy all the air time on WLPO. He will buy all the ad space in the NT. He will stand on his stump, jump up and down, and tell everyone how many good union jobs he created by taxing the out of towners.

Hopefully this is still a town that people will remember what Harl promised and WHAT HE DIDN'T DO! 2:35 You have to have faith in people and hope they vote with what they believe and not by just what they see. Let's all get out and spread the truth and get rid of Harl! A new mayor is needed.

Union people don't always vote the way the "man" tells us to. Some of us think for ourselves while getting union wages and benefits.

Anonymous said...

Glad to hear that 5:36.

Many times money buys elections, but just remember Vickrey dished out megathousands and didn't even get half the vote.

Anonymous said...

And that will happen with the current mayor,8:23. Signs cannot vote.

I agree with the blog majority writing with the 4 people to run for mayor of Peru.
I do believe as I knowing Jim Giordano he is a loser.
His attitude is MUCH worse then Mayor Harl, he is argumentative to a fault and is one who knows it all. He cannot be trusted, BEWARE!
I believe he would argue with God just to see if he could win.

check out Giordano's experience on LinkedIn. If I looked up the right person, it looks like he has some good credentials and a good business sense. However, he might be just a bit close to the construction and waste water industry.

I am not aware if this is the father or son, can someone give me that info?

Anonymous said...

Why don't retired people pay Illinois Income Tax on their socicial secuirty and pension payments?

Anonymous said...

remember baker still had his aldermen in place when harl took over and no one played nice since they wanted him to fail. baker chooses to run again why? if he really cared why didn't he step up and offer his help and wisdom instead of saying he don't like the way things are going. sorry don you had your time and it will always be your town it's time we move on. harl has had a rough raod and he helped dig alot of his own holes so lets get a new pitcher in there and see if we can get out of the inning

AMEN 11:11. SOMEONE WHO WILL LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE AND EXECUTE HIS CAMPAIGN PROMISES.

Who is the A--h--e who keeps worrying about social security money? I am not old enough for it yet; however it irritates me when they try to spend someone elses money! Is this person jealous of someone who worked hard and PAID TAXES? Seems to me like a real FREELOADER!!!

TO THE ONE WHO ALWAYS COMPLAINS ABOUT CAPS -- WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT 1:25? merry christmas!!!

Anonymous said...

6:23 There have been many people who mention that using caps is considered shouting. Shouting on boards is the same as shouting in person, the emptiest head makes the loudest noise as a rule.

And most Christians prefer the the word Christmas be capitalized as a sign of respect for the religion. But its more important for you to stick to your guns I am sure than to ever consider others points of view or feelings. Keep shouting. No one is listening. Happy Holidays!

If anyone should be indited, it should have been the past Mayor. But,the city couldn't aford a lawsuit because when Harl took over Peru was $42 million in debt.Mayor Baker WHY???????

Anonymous said...

And 10:27 I wonder where that $42 million debt stands today. You never hear any more about it and we just keep on spending, spending, spending so I see no way that we could be putting much of a dent in that debt.

Anonymous said...

Mayor Harl achieved the Office of Mayor from Mayor Baker in 2009 presently it is only days since 2013. If Peru was 42 million in debt in 2009 what is its present debt today after four years of Mayor Harls term?
Wouldn't approximately 18 million of the 42 million dollar debt in 2009 be attributed to the Peru Hydro Plant at Starved Rock, which was a investment during Mayor Bakers term of over 30 million and is recognized as one of the best investments made in the area.
Does Mayor Harl have any significantly comparable investments? I do know that this administration has a history of poorly handled demolitions.
When is the water treatment corporation going to start on their near million dollar investment in downtown Peru? This will be a positive motivation boast for the downtown area?

Anonymous said...

Never heard anymore about 42 million, just kind of went away after the election. Was it true to begin with or was it just some number made up by the current administration? So many questions that no one will answer.

Anonymous said...

I have to repeat the question.....
Could you people possibly be any more un-informed and ignorant?
I don't think so.
To 9:43 AM, How do you know the Peru Hydro-Electric Plant has ever been a good investment for the city of Peru? Why do you assume it is or ever has been a good financial deal for Peru?
Because somebody said it was?
Fact is, you don't know!

Anonymous said...

Well 12:43 your blog makes me think you know specifics that we don't. Please feel free to respond with facts instead if sounding like you are a politician or a city employee.

Anonymous said...

Anon 12:43 you sound very negative but have the opportunity to back yourself up with fact. Please inform the rest of us about your profound wealth of knowledge and where you draw it from. Maybe, just maybe you are not as asinine as you presently appear.

Anonymous said...

To 2:16 pm and 5:37 pm, You are correct. I do know specifics that both of you obviously do not.
Suffice it to say that if you believe the Peru Hydro-electric Plant has ever been anything other than a drain on the Electric Light Fund you are both quite "asinine" indeed.
I am not about to waste my time bantering back and forth on this "blob" with a couple of un-informed second-tier political bystanders. Do your own damn research on the topic, as I have. Then, come back with a full report to share with all the other geniuses on this blog who continually run their mouths with no regard for truth or accuracy.
I'm not obligated to educate you people. Get off your ass and do it yourself.
Oh, by the way, Happy New Year to all my blogger buddies out here in MISINFORATION LAND!
Keep those rumors and inuendo coming kids.
2013 is shaping up as another banner year for the
"Peru Town Bore-em".

It is evident that you DO have a very "big head" Smart does not always equate with being considerate to your fellow human beings. Being savvy about information does not mean you have to be rude. So go ahead and thumb your nose and it just gives me a suspicion that perhaps you just might be one of or close to one of the lite 6. I hope that I don't know you.

I have watched this blog for three months solid and I can not find more than a handful of posts by people like yourself that cry foul and support Harl/disagree with Lois where they actually say ANYTHING factual in rebuttal. That is hardly bantering back and forth. The standard reply is always the same,
"we know things, bloggers are wrong, and we won't spend the time to tell you why."

I have pointed this out to several others who I have asked to read this blog, some friends from other cities who really are not even from here and they all say the same thing. No one EVER refutes any claims, not even the slightest ones . Not once.. They just call the folks who complain about things liars and troublemakers. That's it.

Anon 12:57 Are you having a bad hair day???????????????????????

Anonymous said...

12:57 You must not be bored with the forum if you are commenting on what is being said, because that means you are reading the blog. Why don't you come out and just tell us what department you work for/

Harl supporters don't want to admit to the truth. Wait till it's closer to election time -- they are really going to have a fit!
