I'm curious is anyone has a report on how things went last night and today with regards to the new venture drive intersection.

Anonymous said...

It looks like the intersection is working wonderfully. I was there last night and again this morning and trafic is passing perfectly. The only way it could be better is if there was coordinated stop lights.

was leaving menards turning right to go to steak and shake for lunch waited so long because of the line going over 251 I decided on Wendy's instead - I don't see any improvement

12:31 - that is because of the traffic lights on 251 - not the intersection at Venture Drive. The line would be five times longer if there was a four way stop at Venture drive like it was before the change. You should also not that all the traffic going East can get through with one cycle of the Green light on 251.

Everyone just goes into the parking lot and turns to head back to 251. It's a joke. It works beautifully lol. I sat in the bank lot for a bit and watched it.

I've been there too. Traffic does seem to be moving smoothly. Traffic is backing up on 38th St. almost back to the west Dollar Store entrance. Traffic is very heavy on North Peoria Street. I think it helped traffic congestion a lot that some of the stores opened last night.

While I was sitting watching traffic, Chief Bernabei came up beside me and watched for a bit. I asked him if there had been any accidents at this intersection. He said there were none. I was there at 8:00 and 11:30 this morning. Dairy Queen did not have much business at 11:30. I honestly think this new configuration has had a huge impact on that business.

Sherry, I was headed west on 38th wanting to turn left into the mall. A car coming east and was suppose to stop did not and almost hit me head on. Another problem is it is very hard to judge whether the cars coming straight at you are going to stop and their speed. Is it helping the traffic on 251, yes, but other than that it is a mess.

The south on venture merge lane westbound is a bad situation, I have seen several near misses.

3:14. I have heard that same complaint from 3 other people. I hope everybody drives defensively and undistracted.

I still see people coming from the south side of 38th street on venture drive cross around the pylons and head north on venture drive.

Anonymous said...

7:33 that happens all the time. All they have done is keep people from slowing down to stop when they come off 251, now its a free for all.

38th Street should be one way - West Bound ONLY - between 251 and North Peoria Street. The bank and mall entrances should be ONE WAY -
"IN" ONLY. To Exit the Mall parking lot, traffic should be directed to an exit on North Peoria Street or the west end of 38th street. The only problem with this is that people in the Illinois Valley are just too stupid to figure out how to get back home if they can't exit directly onto 251.

9:02 Right genius. Let's make everything feed into the mall, where the administrations buddies came up with this plan. The whole problem has been that the northern business lost their easy entrance exit that gave their shoppers convenience, all in favor of the mall- Instead of forcing mall traffic to the south and sealing off Northern mall access which would even the playing field.
Then both of them would have entrance exit access off 251 , as they should.
Target and Home Depot must not have kissed Harls ring properly.

I went to the mall today and foolishly exited between the banks. I wanted to turn north to get onto 80. No chance of that as traffic was backed up on 38th Street. So I crossed 251 still heading east and was going to turn around in Big Lots parking lot. Unfortunately traffic was backed up there as well, so I had to turn into Rural King and turned around there. What a pain. I also noticed a long line of traffic waiting on 251 to turn left onto 38th Street.

I have a feeling some of you are lying because you can't admit that 38th and Venture Drive traffic is much better than it was before. Not perfict, but 100% better and for the price, well worth it. Now time is being wasted - we absolutely must start talking about fire works again.

4:54 You're absolutely right. We've accommodated IDOT by removing a so called problem on 251 but they haven't adjusted the stop lights accordingly and there is traffic problems all around 251. I've already witnessed each and every problem you mention in your blog.

If you think we are lying, just go sit your rear down in the bank lot and watch. People shoot through the Goodwill lot all the time, northbound skirts the pylons after shooting through the bank. Near collisions occur very frequently. Christmas weekends still are garbage there, true maybe better than they were before as far as back up- but it is the other 11 months of the year that are a joke.
This is a dangerous intersection now. Before it was only dysfunctional. With all the discussion of video council meetings, video recording this intersection seems like the only way to shut up the people who think its working just fine. By the way, they are the same ones who think the Emperors new clothes are just great.
Average speeds through the intersection are obviously higher since they took down the stop signs. That is not a good thing for safety, but does keep the cars moving. You don't have to have an accident a week to prove the danger, just two weeks of video.

Maybe a few acidents will lean out the herd. It is obvious that many Illinois Valley drivers - Peru ones in particular - are way to old to drive. They are the real danger and are the real cause of traffic backups everywhere in Peru.

Anonymous said...

Its not old people that are the problem. Its those socker moms talking on the phone.

Anonymous said...

Anon 3:50 Old people can be identified by the fact they ae the ones diving newer or well maintained cars without a phone pluged into their ear, speeding, stepping on the gas to beat a caution light before it turns red, tailgating.
They are the ones that show respect to others on the road and practice preventive driving. Older people are the ones driving the dentless car because they know safety and plan enough time on the road to get there safely.
The next time start to your destination earlier and allow ample time to get there, maybe traffic backup will be less.
If all those who are too old stay home this country will need another financial bailout so large that the young will never forget it and they will be moving back in with Grampa and Gramma to survive. So show them some respect on the road that they have been paying for, for a long, long time.

7:34 Thank you very much for setting 3:50 straight.

Anon 1:22 Your Welcome

3:50, you are disrespectful to the elderly. God bless you when you become elderly. In agreement it's mostly the super moms in their SUV's/Minivans texting and phone up to their ear. Myself was one of those, however I didn't have a cell phone or a TV in my vehicle so I didn't have to have good conversation with the children. makes me sick. Just park and watch and you can become informed if this trueism. The elderly are the more causious ones, and I have no problem being patient with them, I was taught to be respectful. Thanks to my grandparents and parents.

If you were a parent with a 15 year old who would you prefer to teach your child to drive(other than yourself) a 25 year old or a 60 year old? ENOUGH SAID, unless your stupid enough to say the 25 year old. This is directed to the 3:50 blogger.

3:50 Sorry to say you deserve every comment you are reading. Or maybe I am not sorry! Please be more respectful next time.

A bill passed Thursday in the Illinois general assembly: Dec. 26 at 5 p.m. Is a new deadline for election petitions changed from Dec. 24th 5p.m.

So city hall will probably close at noon on the 24th? So they should be( Christmas Eve Day). I can believe no one in Springfield didn't see that 5p.m. On the 24th was kinda stupid and didn't make sense. We have some scholars in government don't we in Springfield.
