Gorging public tax dollars - LaSalle News Tribune - LaSalle, IL

We have all known for a very long time that Peru Township dollar for dollar spent is not worth it.

I remember a township official saying that they were treated to a very nice steak dinner for Christmas every year at a local restaurant compliments of the taxpayer. It was almost as though he was proud of it. I have never seen anybody in or around that building except at election time. Better double check the actual roads that are supposedly maintained by the township too. I thought the City provided that coverage under a certain "agreement" created years ago.

Will government on all levels ever start spending our hard earned money wisely? Will they ever stop wasting it? I applaud the individuals on this committee and thank them for enlightening us on issues we may not have been aware of.

I think Peru Twp. should be done away with. They don't keep up with their 7 miles of road. Look on your tax bill see what percentage they get. Its a sin. Everyone on the twp. board are a bunch of phonies, dragging in our tax dollar, and laughing at us.

You can drive shooting park rd west of church St until dimmick rd and you will see the condition of the roads..... Vote the crooks out I do know the chief of police is a trustee I wouldn't be surprised if the Attorney General will be looking into this further for possible misconduct by elected officials and just think voters just selected the road commissioners son to be a candidate for lasalle county board

Anonymous said...

exactly- mclaughlin loses fairly.... so now he attacks the father....no surprise - and he just lost all of his duties on the county board for failing to report to meetings and do his duties on those committees - funny i saw mclaughlin- rigby and nelson having a "meeting" at the peru fire station a month or so ago......didnt know the fire station was a meeting spot for them. Unreal. As far as attacking the "road commish son" i dont understand that at all.

Anonymous said...

i am going to wait for the response 2mrw before i make any judgements- i live on a township road and it us very well taken care of and i appreciate it.

Anonymous said...

art rigyby---- probably still holding a grudge from with vickrey beat him....ughhhhhh

Anonymous said...

Matt Mclaughlin? Didnt he just lose to the R . C's son? Talk sbout horrible sour grapes.

Anonymous said...

He's got my vote for County Board.

Anonymous said...

Nothing like the Peru Democrats getting rich on your money. What are the links to the current City of Peru Mayor?

Anonymous said...

Payback is sweet. Sounds like the end of the line for this machine.

Anonymous said...

meetings at the fire dept now? real nice hate to see if there was a fire.

Anonymous said...

payback? nice as an elected official he couldn't even make the meetings. more like a draw back

Anonymous said...

I'm sure the documents don't lie people that's the bottom line..out of control spenidng by government whether city officials or township officials.....we can point fingers and place blame on others but in the end....tax money is not play moneyand those that spend it have to be held accountable....I would say the boys club at the township is over...pack your bags....it seems we need reform now in both our city and our township...

Anonymous said...

isnt this made public every year? lol

Anonymous said...

the county board primaries mclaughlin lost to oscepinski . Oscepinski is one who was getting paid from Peru Township for cleaning the toilets for thousands of dollars a month . (even though he actually does nothing ). I sure hope he doesnt get voted into the county board in November because we dont need any more crooks in charge !

Anonymous said...

ugh see above angry republicans. Dont worry- maybe if we hold more meetings at the fire dept they can figure it out.

Anonymous said...

Is the 7 miles of township road in Peru's Fire District?? Of course meetings at fire station because the BIG BOYS want the FD ON THEIR SIDE!! WHAT EVER HAPPENED WITH THE IDEA THAT MEETINGS COULD BE HELD AT PERU'S STATE OF THE ART CITY HALL? CORRUPT! Read today's and tomorrows News Tribune, and you will be shaking your head. Todays article was unbelievable.

THe lawn i see young joe cut looks pretty good :) Keep up the good work. The world needs more toilet cleaners like the figure above since obviously the person knows when every toilet is cleaned. Good luck in nov. :) you i am not in your district but i would vote for you. attacking him is just wrong by the way. But there is a response 2mrw- so i am also not jumping to conclusions. Certainly wrong to claim he does nothing also.

Anonymous said...

From my understanding, Joe Jr is a very hard worker-as i used to work at ups with him- thats how he beat mcalughlin-hard work and motivation so i bet that toilet is real clean if he takes care of them . and if he is doing nothing i am sure it was his break time.... keep your head high and wish you all the best of luck in nov. he is not the issue but i dont understand why they are attacking him

Anonymous said...

enough fighting- i thought this was a respectful blog- everyone just work together

Anonymous said...

Wasn't Oscepenski on Peru's Fire Department several years ago? I agree bags need to be packed. Also, DOCUMENTS CAN BE FUDGED WITH. tonighs NT has article, I'm sure that alot of taxpayers are not going to be happy campers.

Anonymous said...

This is another example of elected officials wasting tax money. Vote them all out!!!

Anonymous said...

attack the township- this is about the township and the city- not the county board.

Anonymous said...

a meet at the fire dept- secret society

The frustrating part about all of this is the only way to do away with Peru Township is to do away with all the townships in the county. That would also require restructuring the county board - and we know how they feel about changing anything.
The Township Road District can be done away with if they loose about a mile of roadway. If that happens - the maintenence would go to the City and the County. "They" will do everything they can to prevent that from happening - considering that almost all of the roads are in the subdivision near South Bluff - very expensive property with roads being paid for by City of Peru residents.

Anonymous said...

It is my understanding that the City dedicated to the township just enough roads to qualify for a township. Also, I have to wonder if the township uses some of the services paid for by the city in the building across the street.

Anonymous said...

This is shocking!! The R.C should resign. Is it to late for a recall in Peru Township.

Anonymous said...

Mark kirk should resign.

Anonymous said...

Mike Hocking was Harl's campaign manager first time around. A real bunch!

Anonymous said...

Wonderful comment made in the newspaper from Mike Hocking.....yes our salaries are high and we want to keep it that way? Is that for real? Its a good story at the township. All the Republicans are still laughing about how the Democratic Township Party leader and company turned its back in the last County Board election to elect the Republican/Friend instead of the Democratic incumbant. And how this group has stepped up to be the re-election team for Peru Mayor Scott Harl. $200,000 in salaries and benefits for a few miles of roads. I guess if you have nothing to do and the taxpayers are filling your checkbook, why not plot/plan and insure your future earnings.

Anonymous said...

Lois, I know the topic of discussion is Peru Township, but since everything seems to revert back to the fire department, did you notice the article in the Newstrib recognizing members of the Fire Department, Police Department, and PVAS? It would be nice to see something positive on the blog.....

Anonymous said...

7:51 I think you are wrong about Harls manager. It was Steve Weberski.

Anonymous said...

Corruption in the fire dept and now the township!
Looks like E.H. learned from the best as a crooked president of Liberty Fire Co. Since J.D and J.O. from the township were past presidents of Liberty.

Anonymous said...

not respectful at all

Anonymous said...

Little Joe was spraying chemicals without an illinois license. He should do the honorable thing and admit wrongdoing. Unfortunately, he doesn't know right from wrong. And now he wants on the county board so he can "township" that organization as well. Little Joe needs to get a real education and a real job, not one that daddy got for him so he can live on the teets of the taxpayers!!!!

Anonymous said...

I did see him spraying weeds in the parking lot. not in ditches. And last time i checked he is still employed at ups. pretty good job i would say. and he still has my vote in nov. I see a young person running for office and that is great change in my opinion. We need more young ppl doing things like that whether he wins or loses. I just wish the mclaughlin ppl on here would stop attacking him. Remember.... he won fair and square and working more hard to get it.... unfortunately you weren't at the meeting where Matt was booted off all his committees for not even showing up. I am not trying to take sides- but my gosh- leave him out of it.

Anonymous said...

What does he have to do with it? I did not vote in the primary but i will vote for him in november.

Anonymous said...

is spraying weeds in my driveway wrong now?

Anonymous said...

My son graduated high school with him- so i know he has that much education. and he will have my vote- great to see and at least some youngster try to get into politics- win or lose.

Anonymous said...

I think anyone who could offer there son a part time job would do so. just my opinion though.

Anonymous said...

sour grapes.

Anonymous said...

This isn't about junior. This is about the machine wasting my tax money. After I read the second article today I was even more shocked than I was yesterday. He needs two men to flag. How often do they blacktop?. I am sick and tired of these elected officials wasting our money.

Anonymous said...

agreed- definitely not about jr.

Anonymous said...

STUPID! HIRE TEMPS INSTEAD OF SALARIES EHEN BLACKTOPPING!! Does J. O. think we are stupid. What does Mike Hocking actually do to get high salary??? This will all come out. The picture of J.O. And M.H. In paper is VERY interesting. Wonder what's really on their minds.

Anonymous said...

probably answering the questions.

Anonymous said...

Little Joe works for the township. He is intricately involved. He is running for public office. He is involved in wrongdoing. Get out of Daddy's basement, get a real job, and admit the truth. Wow, will he be some great politician. This is about the truth, and his part in the the gorging of taxpayers. And believe me, hardball hasn't even begun.

DUMP PERU TWP. AND THE LEACHES THAT SUCK AND DRAIN MONEY FROM TAXPAYERS UNNECESSARILY, ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO ALREADY ARE COLLECTING A PENSION AND BENEFITS. NO DOUBLE DIPPING- AND IN SOME CASES TRIPPLE DIPPING!! IF PERU TWP IS NECESSARY, HOPEFULLY SOMEONE WHO NEEDS A JOB WILL GET IT AND NOT ABUSE THE POSITION. NO RETIRED LEACH SUCKING INDIVIDUALS!!

Anonymous said...

i dont see how a part time employee is to blame. but a younger perosn running for office is terrific to see.

Anonymous said...

this is just about saving tax payers dollars- the slandering going on here is ridiculous. nothing wrong is going on --- we just have to save more dollars.

Anonymous said...

vickrey what about him? i think he has the record for most offices ran for

Anonymous said...

funny i didnt see dougs name mentioned

Anonymous said...

What many people don't realize is that the union for the Heavy Equipment Operators backed Harl running for the the mayor and Hocking is also a part of that and more. Check into that...and what union are the Peru workers in now?

It's all buddy-buddy going on now in this Peru political merry-go-round.

Anonymous said...

Isn't Doug only a trustee with the Peru Township Committee? How much does a trustee get paid?

Peru Town Forum said...

10:27 PM

Which Doug are you speaking of, there are 2 on the twp. board. Biederstedt and Bernabei

Anonymous said...

Hocking was put in 0ffice, by a group of trustees, Joe Hogan announced that they put hocking in to take bret browns place. No election. Scott Harl had nothing to do with his being put in on the Twp. Its all a bunch of politicans getting together and keeping friends in office .. The township is a farce. The city should take over the 6 miles.

Anonymous said...

Who are the trustees on the township board?

Anonymous said...

The chief of police Doug gets paid for each meeting $250 the average meeting in the last year has lasted about 27 minutes (based on public record) and he gets $500 for medical reimbursement and a contribution from to his state retirement fund...

Anonymous said...

6:30 No he has the record for most money spent on a township, county board elections.

Anonymous said...

all public knowledge- just saying .

Anonymous said...

lol 10:37 cuz he is a republican

Anonymous said...

He needs two guys to flag when he blacktops??????? How many days a year does he do that?????

Anonymous said...

one employee is only part time.

Anonymous said...

Do you think anything will change? The best that can happen is that you may change those receiving the benefits. Will you vote for a new group of republicans? Probably No. The current group will hold on to the war chest and rub it in our wounds.

Anonymous said...

id rather have change at the city level first

Anonymous said...

I saw the older guys ridding around in a township pickup truck today. They seem to just drive around south of the river. I think it's time to put an end to this. Why do we need 2 men in one truck wasting gas!

Anonymous said...

I would assume he was showing what had to be done.

Anonymous said...

Isnt that saving gas if its in one instead of two?

Anonymous said...

Can someone tell me why the township doesn't haul gravel for the edges of the road. I noticed they hired a construction company to do it. Can anyone tell me if this work was bid out?

Anonymous said...

I'm looking for any information on a petition asking for the Township officials resignation.

Anonymous said...

im sure you would be lol get the mayor first.

Anonymous said...

Does the township own the barn south of the river. We always used to see the township truck parked behind the barn. I'm not sure if they were sleeping back there or perhaps storing equipment?

Anonymous said...

Perhaps Peru township could host the fireworks.
