If you are an early riser, there is posted on the city web site, that there will be a meeting April 30 of the Public Property Committee @ 6 AM at the Peru Swimming Pool. Perhaps this is in regard to the pool demolition that is on the council agenda for the May 1 meeting.

Who is running this city Ald. Perez or Mr. Harl?

Anonymous said...

Tuesday is May 1st

Anonymous said...

Neither

Why would we trade in backhoes if we're planning on renting some? I thought you traded something in when you were buying something in return. I also don't understand the hiring Chamlin for $35,000. I thought we were hiring an individual. Confusion again!!

Some one should check their spelling before the agenda is posted. VARIANCE is misspelled three times.

Recently a quote was obtained from the State Journal Register, Springfield, Illinois. It stated that Springfield, Il. has a population of 118,000 and the salary of the Chief of Police is $118,000 per year which would amount to $1.00 per resident per year. In the 2013 Peru City Budget the Peru Chief of Police is being paid $93,000 per year with a population of 10,000 which amounts to $9.30 per resident per year.
Also stated is that SPW in Springfield is paid $110,000 which amounts to $.93 per resident per year and Peru pays its SPW $86,200, per year a salary which amount to $8.62 per resident per year.
These figures stated above must speak for themselves because in fairness to all it must be mentioned to compare the positions the amount of square miles serviced, the number of individuals supervised, the cost of equipment maintained, the number of calls, background, education, experience in the position etc. must also be considered as well as population.
I do know that a corporation called TEST manages Peru Water for $600,000+ per year and that LaSalle also has water treatment but do not know if that is in the job description of the LaSalle SPW or if TEST also services LaSalle for more than a half a million per year.
Also does Peru have excessive engineering costs for a town of its size?
Peru being the largest sales tax collector in LaSalle Count for some reason still never has enough money to support its government.

Has the date change been posted within 48 business hours of the meeting? I thought the city was in trouble last time when they failed to post meeting times. Harls crew called the State when Baker was in charge. Now its ok? Lois, if you were informed about a Public Works meeting early Friday morning, how does this fall within 48 hours?

Time wise everything is legal about the scheduled meeting on Monday and the announcement is almost a 72 hour notice.

In regards to the Public Property Committee on April 30, 2012: Is it really going to be held at 6:00 A.M. at the swimming pool? Why? Sure doesn't make it easy for citizens to attend. And, where at the pool? In the changing house?

@ anon 12:50 p.m.
Yes, it is really going to be held at 6:00 a.m. The Mayor, SPW Bleck, and Mr. Michelini are meeting to try to come up with an estimate of how much cement and other debris will need to be hauled away so it can be put properly in a bid request.
Ald. Ankiewicz and I were advised of this meeting and we both wanted to be there, so we had to post it as an open meeting. Whenever 2 aldermen on the same committee are at a meeting, it is considered a public meeting and must be posted. It's rare that citizens come to our committee meetings even when they're held in the evening. I think we'll just be standing outside. I hope it's not raining! Hope this answers your questions.

Thank you alderman Mayszak for your explanation. It's greatly appreciated. Here's another one for you if and when you have time to answer. Who is Mr. Michelini? Is he another consultant for Peru? I've heard of him but don't quite understand his connection to the pool and Peru. Hasn't his name been mentioned with regards to farm land by the airport? I'm not trying to be negative. Just trying to understand.

Anonymous said...

As part of the deal for him to let noonan use our city owned land and him being put out and losing money, Hahaha. , we are adding him to city payroll as another paid consultant. Of course its all under the table.

Anonymous said...

The farmland is the property of Peru. Only Peru can decide not to use as farmland. Both the City and the farmer lose income if the farm acreage is used for non production purposes.

Anonymous said...

Ok, but that still does not answer 9:42 question about the reason he was at the meeting this morning with the mayor and spw.

Sherry Mayszak said...

I don't know much about Steve Michelini except that he owns some of the farmland (I believe 5 acres) that Merry Noonan wants to use for parking for the Kid Rock concert. He had an Illinois Valley Excavating hat on this morning and he seems to know alot about tearing things up and hauling them away, so I think that is his business. The mayor didn't make it to the meeting this morning. Steve was there to help us get an idea of how to ask for bids for removal of all that concrete at the pool. He is donating his time and equipment to demolish the pool, pool house and concession stand, but we still have to pay to have it all hauled away and put into some landfill. To my knowledge, he was not paid to come to the pool this morning and give us his opinions and ideas and he was very helpful, and I appreciate his advice.

Yet once again the mayor proves just how worthless he is.

Rodney Perez said...

Sherry,
Thanks for that up-date I was waiting until tomorrow to inquire.
I had an owner of a contracting company within our ward offer up his time and dump truck to haul debris away. Im sure between volunteers and city equipt. We can get this done without much cost.
I'm sure this will be discussed during Tuesday's meeting. I will check with that contractor after we see if the council favors this approach.

Thank you!!
Rodney

interesting. there is a bit of gossip around town about some city of Peru workers and some laborers throughout the area getting upset over people volunteering anything but money for any projects. I have even heard volunteers referred to as skabs.

Anonymous said...

anon 7:46 What's interesting about the 6 unions in Peru advancing their own interest? Its common sense that volunteers are not welcome. I would be very surprised if the city allowed a volunteer group to take down the pool or haul away without union help. What do you think happened on the demo of the power plant. The City sold the plant but had to mandate that all demo be done by Local union. So yes I would agree that if your doing more than picking up garbage, you are a obstacle to the NEW PERU.

Anonymous said...

everyone on the job better have a card and better be paid. the government must create jobs and the only way to do that is stop letting people do so called "volunteer" work. volunteers are destroying america. i don't care if it is nocking down a pool, building a house for the so called poor, or picking up garbage. we need to pay union people to do this work. we need to take money away from the rich people in this town and give it to the good union worker.

Anonymous said...

we can't let skabs do this work. Harl needs to remember who got him elected and who he works for.

Anonymous said...

What happens when the elected becomes one of those rich people in town? He quickly forgets who got him to the throne. It didn't take him long.

WAKE UP AND LOOK AROUND! MOST OF YOUR SO CALLED UNION BUSINESSES ARE GONE. YOU DROVE THEM OUT WITH YOUR HIGH WAGES AND BENEFITS. IF THE CITY CAN SAVE MONEY THATS GREAT. I GUARANTEE IF YOU HIRE SOMEONE IT'S NOT ALWAYS UNION IF EVER AT ALL!!

Anonymous said...

I agree unions had their day of need but now they do nothing but harm.

Anonymous said...

At 8:50 AM this morning I just say a city worker park his city truck at the McDonalds up by the interstate and go inside to get a late breakfast.

Anonymous said...

More union help at work!!! TIMEKILLERS!!!

Anonymous said...

city workers are allowed to eat and even allowed to take breaks. this isn't the 1800's.

Anonymous said...

11:31 - how many times per day?? lets see the typical schedule... start "working" at sometime around 7:00 AM - head off to the gas station to top off the tank and fill up on coffee and donuts. Back to the barn to check the "work" schedule. Hem and Haw until around the first break and "second breakfast." Recheck the "work" schedule - yup its still the same. Head out to the "work" sight and hold a shovel for a few minutes... oops, time for lunch. Head back to the barn. Sit around for an hour an a half and eat lunch. Back to the work site.... ooops, forgot the shovel, nothing to lean on. Back to the barn. Ooops... used to much gas, need to stop off and fill the tank, and get some snacks for "second lunch" at 2:00. Back to the work site, lean on the shovel for a little while. Ooops... its 3:00 - time for "overtime" - finally finsh the job "after hours" and head home and hope that whatever job they did falls apart in the middle of the night, because that would be tripple over time.

Ok 9:14, Your comment is small minded and I find it offensive. Yes, maybe the employee did stop in for a late breakfast. Is it possible that he found out that they would not be getting a lunch because they were scheduled to repair a water main break? Do you know how many lunches/breaks are never taken because they have emergency breaks to tend to so the citizens are not inconvenienced? Do you know how many dinners are missed to get the job done timely so residents don't have to wait through the night to get water? It's more than a few times a week.
I expect your apology to posted on this blog!

2:30 How long did you work for the city? Were you able to cash out on those early retirement benefits? It doesn't sound like you used to many shovels during your time.

Anonymous said...

the appology comes every two weeks with the paycheck that is substantially higher than most people in the illinois valley get.

Anonymous said...

It's quite scary when 2:30 and 4:33 are so vocal yet they don't know the facts. So sad.

Anonymous said...

I don't care how many breaks someone takes or if they stop for coffee in the morning. I don't think anyone else would either if the streets are cleared and the water works when you turn it on and the lights light, and all the other important services we ask our city workers to do are done promptly, corectly and as safely as possible. That said I don't think that's happening as often as it used to and I don't think the problem is all our employees fault. It seems some employees can do as they wish and not have problems and others that do the same thing can't because they are not in the teachers pet, I think it's poor leadership, because I beleive to get someone to do a great job for you they have to know the boss has their back so to speak this mayor does NOT.

Anon 9:18 Read your comment. 2:30 and 4:33 state what they consider their complaints and justifications. You claim they don't know the facts but in your rebuttal you don't state the facts that you perceive to know. Please do!
