Lois: I think the article in tonight's paper regarding the TIF makes for interesting and informative reading. Maybe you could post the site so people could connect right to it.

Lois, it gets old and repetitive to get your same guests to respond to the topics. Why don't you contact some of those who work with city issues on a daily basis? City Clerk, Treasurer, City workers, alderman, economic developer, real estate agent. It is your right and your site to put the same Mayor does nothing wrong posts. Wouldn't it be better to send questions for other city people to respond to. A example....City Party, ask a employee to respond to the alleged actions. You may not get a respond in all cases, but you could ask. You have mail, email, phone addresses. I like the former parade floats..nice work.

Unfortunately the blog is something I do in my spare time, No one pays me for the time I put into it and what you would like I don't have the time to do. It would be nice if the city employees would email pertinent information they would like put on the blog to me and/or comments they have to what people are talking about.
The rest of my time is given to work that brings in money and I continue to have to do that for the extras we need.

Lois, I understand your efforts are not full time and appreciate your thoughts.

Yes it is always a few who express themselves and I want to take this opportunity to thank them. I don't believe it is the blogs responsibility to contact those who work with City issues on a daily basis but rather the local newspaper or the radio station. (Both of which are owned by one corporation, the Miller Media Group.)

Interviews with various local officials would be of interest to many of us. In response to the comment, " same Mayor does nothing wrong posts" I was at the Dec 6 council meeting when the Mayor asked for public comment, as he does at all city council meetings and no one spoke. He then said, "No public comment with this large of a group?", again no one spoke up and the meeting was adjourned.

I think that the subject "public comment" during the Peru City Council meetings is a great place for interested citizens to express themselves and to request answers to their questions. As an added bonus the Mayor, City Attorney, City Clerk, Treasurer, SPW, Electrical Foremen, Aldermen, Chief of Police, Fire Chief, President of Test and Chamlin Eng are all there as well as a reporter from the Newspaper and a representative of the radio station. What better time to speak up and to get answers. It is not just one persons responsibility to ask the questions. It becomes much more important when many are asking the questions than if only a few.

With 14 candidates aspiring to achieve council seats, the citizens of Peru will have a choice of candidates to represent them. It must be remembered that the 3 incumbents running will have their past performance (good or bad) to present for review. The 11 other candidates will have their platforms to stand on and present. I hope that part of all their platforms will be to televise the council meetings. The present council has completely avoided this subject.

Sadly we have many city officials who have forgot that they are public servants. This proven by their reluctance to answer to the citizens of Peru. When your representative does not want to answer you and/or pushes it off to the next person - it is time to get different representation.

Well written ANON 6:14. I totally agree with your comments especially the one where the city officials forget that they are public servants and their reluctance to answer questions.

As a city resident, do you really want to pay to watch city officials on TV? And yet you don't want to pay for a swimming pool? Sounds like a few of you want to be on TV. Do you believe that you will get more candid discussion as a result of TV? Talk about a waste of money that would top it off. City hires camera crews to film meetings...Peru span. Thank God the city has avoided the subject and the mayor has enough sense not to make this his platform.

I interpret that as a council member you prefer not to be exposed to the light of day and allow the residents of Peru to see how you vote and comment at meetings. Actually in the last couple of months there have been some Oscar winning performances, that I would have liked the entire city to have seen. Sometimes even the non verbals are a sight to be seen.
